One of the unique traits of the piqlFilm is that we can also present digital files in a visual format, that is readable by the human eye.

This ability is represent data in a visual format is great for the “self-contained” function of the piqlFilm, which allows us to document everything necessary about how to retrieve the data in the long distance future in a format that is readable for human beings.

We put complete descriptions on all dedicated piqlFilms on how to decode the QR-code, how to read the file format that we have stored on the piqlFilm, we can include the rendrer tools themselves and even the source code of the file formats. And we do this in a way that can be read by both humans and machines in the future to maximize the likelihood of the information being accessible.

In addition to the self-documenting aspect of the piqlFilm, the visual feature also make it possible to store data in a visual format. This is specifically well suited for documents and to some extent images, either as a version of the image itself, or as a reference copy to the file that is stored digitally as QR-code as well.

! The piqlFilm is black and white so for storing any images in color they will be black and white when they are stored visually on the piqlFilm. If you want to store them in full resolution and with color, you can do that using the digital version (as the QR-code).

If you want to store your data in a visual format, you can choose this by enabling the Visual storage function on the package level (have to be turned on when creating the package). After this, the system will know that the files in this package shall be stored visually.

It also automatically calculates how much space that is needed depending on number of pages/images and the configuration chosen (this can be found in Settings).

For Visual packages you can choose to configure the setup in ‘Settings’:

The configuration is found under Settings - Packages.

A practical guideline say that we normally can store information visually with a DPI up to 300. For files with DPIs higher than that there could be some compromises. Ask us if you have questions around this.

! Note - A visual package will only allow for uploading files with JPEG, TIFF (for images) and PDF (for documents) file extensions.
