We in Piql care about sustainable data storage. That is why we designed the unique self-contained piqlFilm that can be stored completely offline without any carbon footprint to be maintained and accessible for perpetuity.

How does Piql do sustainable data storage?

Well, we do it in several ways throughout the data journey from user uploads data to it is being securely stored offline on the piqlFilm.

  1. We plan to set aside 1% of all subscription earnings to actions to reduce the Co2 footprint in the atmosphere. This is happening through our payment provider Stripe and can be seen upon checkout of a subscription.

  2. We provide a service to transfer data to the Frozen Cloud. Data stored in the Frozen cloud has a much lower Co2 footprint than normal data center storage as it is stored on a delayed near-line technology.

  3. We offer the most sustainable storage medium in the world, piqlFilm, designed to keep data for perpetuity. The piqlFilm can after it has been produced be kept offline, off-grid in a vault or on a shelf under normal storage conditions. Without any need for electricity or carbon footprint to be maintained, the data will always be accessible.

  4. You can store the piqlFilm on your own shelf or let us take care of it for you. If you choose one of our physical storage options, you can currently choose between the piqlVault Norway or the Arctic World Archive. The Arctic World Archive is a natural vault with temperature around -2 degrees celcius around the year. This mean that we don’t need any kind of electricity to maintain and keep the piqlFilms secured in the vault.

The combination of piqlFilm and Arctic World Archive is unique and the most sustainable data storage in the world.
